Ruth bouknight mcgee, 89, wife of john frampton mcgee, went to sleep peacefully with john by her side on sunday, april 13, 2014.
Born december 7, 1924, she was the daughter of the late heber t. And julia m. Bouknight of irmo, sc.  she was pre-deceased by four brothers: h. Felder bauknight, hermes c. Bouknight, thelbert g. Bouknight and c. Preston bouknight, and two sisters:  julia p. Eleazer and charlotte j. Harrell.
She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, john f. Mcgee of charleston, son, dr. Charles v. Smedley (sue) of goose creek, sc, daughters beverly hardy (archie) of saluda, sc and catharine mebane (bern) of greenville, sc, and a sister zelma prim of columbia, sc; nine grandchildren:  sarah j. Smedley, william deberniere mebane, jr. After moving to charleston to be with her husband, john, ruth immediately became involved with the community in so many ways.  ruth was a hospital volunteer for camc and joined the louden heights garden club.  she was a talented gardener and the gardens at their home reflected that talent. She was a beautiful, always gracious, fun, loving, warm and giving lady and loved by all.
She always had a smile for anyone she met and together with her husband, john have given so much to the city of charleston including the “hallelujah” metal sculpture at the clay center, lighting scheme of the south side bridge, colored lights to the lee street and kanawha boulevard bridges just to name a few.   she was especially pleased when she and john donated funds for a new pipe organ at the first presbyterian church where she and john have been members since moving to charleston in 1971.
Ruth and john enjoyed traveling the world and often took friends and family with them.  they loved sharing their fortunes and giving others an opportunity to see the world through their eyes.  ruth was known for her love of shopping, especially in thailand.   she was happiest when she could take you to streets of bangkok for the best “deals”.
The family would like to thank her all caregivers and especially mary jane tucker who has been a dear and longtime friend to ruth and all the family.
A service will be held at the first presbyterian church, charleston, wv on wednesday, april 23rd at 11:00 am.  in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ruth b. And john f. Mcgee foundation, 300 chase tower, 707 virginia street, east, charleston, wv  25301

I Did Not Know Mrs. Mcgee But I Know How Hard It Can Be To Lose A Loved One In Death So I Wanted To Say I Am Very Sorry For Your Loss. The Scripture That Has Given Me Comfort At Times Like This Is The One Found At Revelation 21:4 That Says, “And He Will Wipe Out Every Tear From Their Eyes, And Death Will Be No More, Neither Will Mourning Nor Outcry Nor Pain Be Anymore. The Former Things Have Passed Away.” So God Has Promised That In The Very Near Future We Will Never Have To Experience The Pain Associated With Death Anymore. I Pray That This Gives The Family Some Comfort During This Difficult Time.
