Obituary

Sarah murphy lyons of charleston, age 65, passed away peacefully at home saturday, may 28th, 2016. She was the loving wife of dan lyons, mother of meredith johnston(eric), kate westrin(charles), and jeff foster, and proud grandmother of ella westrin.
Sarah was born to the late lane and mildred murphy of princeton, wv. She graduated from princeton high school and west virginia university where she was crowned miss mountaineer.  sarah received her master’s degree in english education and library science.
Upon graduation from college, sarah moved to charleston where she taught english for many years at various schools in kanawha county.  sarah was passionate about spreading her love of reading and writing to all of her students.  then sarah took her love of integrating technology to the state board of education. She worked as director of educational technology, developing and implementing technology based education in schools throughout the state. 
sarah never met a stranger; she made a lasting impression on everyone she met.  she loved her walks with her best friend june, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Sarah and dan loved to travel and working at home in their garden.   
sarah is also survived by her sisters suzanne lowry(rick) and beth vinyard(rodney) and many other loving family members
memorial service will be 11 a.M. Wednesday, june 1, 2016 at first presbyterian church sanctuary, charleston.  the family will receive friends for a visitation time from 6 to 8 p.M. Tuesday, may 31, 2016 at barlow bonsall funeral home, charleston.

    Sarah Was My Sorority Sister At Wvu. I Will Always Cherish My Chi Omega Memories Of Her. She Was So Much Fun And A Truly Special Lady. We Re-Connected A Few Years Back At A “Chi Omega” Reunion. She Had Us All Laughing Like Crazy. God Bless.
