Obituary

Shirley ardman, 92, of swampscott ma, died march 12, 2014 after a long illness. Born in weston wv to benjamin and molly baker, she studied journalism at columbia university. While a freshman journalism student, she was given an assignment to interview a living author and through a mutual acquaintance, met and interviewed j.D. Salinger in the bar of a manhattan hotel. This occurred just after his first short story was published and years before catcher in the rye, remaining one of the very few interviews of the reclusive author.
Shirley spent most of her married life in washington pa with her husband bill (deceased) where she raised two sons, pursued a career in real estate and ran for public office.
She is survived by her children, charles ardman (patricia), montclair nj and blair ardman (margaret), marblehead ma and four grandchildren, jonathan, rebecca and daniel ardman, and leo john macdonald.
At her wish, there will be no funeral service. Burial will be in wv. A memorial service will be held at a future date and location to be specified.
