Obituary

Stephen james lewis, born january 22, 1960, in batavia, n.Y., made his joyous way to his heavenly home august 23, 2018.
Stephen was preceded in death by his cherished mother, judith graham lewis; special uncle, gary selfe lewis; and a host of loving family and friends.
Stephen is survived by his best friend and loving wife, michelle lewis; his father, the rev. Jim lewis; his precious children, jacquelyn selfe lewis, severna park, md., ellie jennifer lewis, and samuel james lewis, charleston, s.C., now have a fierce guardian angel advocating for them until he is able to hold them once again; sisters, elizabeth lewis-kendall (mac) of durham, n.C., deborah lewis of hanover, n.H., and rev. Katherine lewis, minneapolis, minn.; beloved nieces and nephews, lewis kendall, kitty kendall, alex kopplekam, sarah kopplekam, jessie bulson – lewis and eva bulson – lewis retain special memories of time spent with uncle steve.
Stephen was a 1978 graduate of george washington high school, charleston, w.Va., and for four years honorably served his country in the united states navy.
Stephen was always sharing his infectious smile and killer wit. He loved a good rock ‘n’ roll concert, picking the winning pony, and his canine companions through the years.
Self – proclaimed “original x-gamer,” he pushed the limits of this earth to his delight and the delight of those around him. Whether playing lacrosse, skiing, boating, camping or fishing, he loved sports, the outdoors and living life to the fullest.
He was never happier than when he found success through his waterfront development days in the carolinas, and most recently in west virginia.
He discovered a great amount of joy by giving back to children in distressed maryland communities teaching and coaching lacrosse.
The world is dimmer today as we mourn the loss of our adored companion.
Gifts in tribute to stephen’s memory may be given to any charity, perhaps cancer research, or c.A.S.T for kids foundation, introducing kids to the joys of fishing castforkids.Org.
Details of the upcoming memorial service will be shared at a later date.
Barlow bonsall funeral home in charleston is handling the arrangements.

Saying Goodbye To Someone We Love Is Heartbreaking. My Deepest Sympathies To The Friends And Family Of Stephen. May You Find Comfort In Knowing That Our Heavenly Father Knows The Heartbreak Of Loss And Is Here For Us As He Promised At Isaiah 43:2 “When You Pass Through The Waters, I Will Be With You, And Through The Rivers, They Will Not Flood Over You. When You Walk Through The Fire, You Will Not Be Scorched, Nor Will The Flame Singe You.”   Although Death Is The Most Heartbreaking Experience We Will Ever Face We Are Not Left Without Hope.  God Promises To Bring Our Loved Ones Back To Life Through A Resurrection As He Promised At, Isaiah 25:8 ” He Will Swallow Up Death Forever, And The Sovereign Lord Jehovah Will Wipe Away The Tears From All Faces.”  How We Long For That Truly Special Day To Embrace Them Again!

Mr. Lewis Sounds Very Generous And Kind. It’S Hard To Lose Someone So Dear To You. When I Lost My Grandpa, The Only Real Comfort Was To Remember God’S Promised Resurrection. Seeing Our Loved Ones Again Will Be A Great Blessing For Sure. I’D Like To Leave A Few Of The Scriptures That Helped My Family The Most During Times Of Loss:
    John 5:28,29
    Isaiah 25:8
    Revelation 21:3,4

While Growing Up In A Small Town In West Virginia, Steve Was The Neighbor Who Introduced My Brother, Jim, And Me To A Wonderful Game Called Lacrosse. Steve Could Run Circles Around Us, And It Was Very Apparent That He Was A Talented And Gifted Athlete Even In His Youth.

My Sincere Condolences Go Out To The Lewis Family During This Time Of Loss.
