Obituary

Susan Alfred, of Charleston, WV, passed away on October 15, 2025, with her family by her side.

She was born October 1, 1937, in Charleston, to the late Robert E. Alfred and Nina (Barnes) Alfred. Susan was a graduate of Weston High School, Class of 1955, where she played the flute in the band and participated in many school and social activities. Following graduation, she studied at West Virginia Wesleyan College and became a member of the WVWC Emeritus Club.

Susan was a member of the Charleston Baptist Temple and Charleston Woman’s Club.

Susan is survived by her sister, Lillian F. Alfred of Charleston; her brother, Robert E. Alfred, Jr., of Charleston, and many beloved cousins.

She was an Administrative Secretary who worked for Bowman Architects and WV Departments of Health and Human Resources, Natural Resources and Rehabilitation Services. Susan also was a volunteer for the City of South Charleston and the WV Cultural Center.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia Street East, Charleston, WV, with the Rev. Dr. Jim Hewitt officiating.

Visitation will begin one hour prior at the funeral home.

Graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. the next day at the Waldeck Cemetery in Weston, WV.

  1. Sincere condolences go out to Lillian her brother,whom I never met, but new Susan and Lillian from occasionally doing their hair at Hair We Are. Both of whom were very kind ladies. Rest in peace, Susan, I’m sure you’re in a better place now!
