Obituary

Susan was born february 22, 1947 in morgantown, daughter of the late henry and rula harman of morgantown. She graduated from morgantown high school and attended wvu where she earned a bs in journalism. Out of college she took a job as a reporter for the morgantown post and soon after she was assigned to charleston to cover the 10 week legislative session. She discovered that she loved working in that environment and soon left the newspaper and moved to charleston where she started her career in government and public service, most notably as kanawha county manager and later west virginia state director of aging programs. At the age of 42, she put her career on hold to fulfill a lifelong dream. She moved back to morgantown and enrolled in law school at wvu. Three years later she was admitted to the bar and returned to charleston eventually joining the law firm of bailey & wyant. A few years before retiring she returned to government service as the legal counsel for the bureau for medical services.

As busy as she was in her career, she always found time for volunteering. She especially loved helping the kanawha players theater group, master gardeners and manna meal which provides meals to the homeless.

She is survived by her sister dyanne garvin of bradenton, fl; her brother stephen and wife beth of bruceton mills, wv; and her niece dr. Megan harman of lewisburg, wv.

She will be missed by her many friends, family, her sorority sisters with whom she shared many ‘girls nights out’ and her adopted grandson, chance.

Memorial contributions made in susan’s memory can be sent to manna meals, 1105 quarrier st, charleston, wv 25301.
