Obituary
Thomas wayne carpenter, 81, passed away peacefully on monday, 1/8/2018 after a life well lived. Tom was born to charles “estel’ and ruby carpenter on november 23, 1936 in cedar grove, wv and grew up in the kanawha river valley area, graduating from montgomery high school in 1955. He then went on to join the u.S. Army and served in the 11th airborne division. After his military tour, tom returned to wv where he met and married the love of his life; shelvy (woodson) carpenter. Both his parents and beloved wife preceded him in death.
Tom worked for kaiser aluminum (now constellium) in ravenswood, wv, for over 40 years and was a retired u.S. Steelworker.
Tom is survived by his five adoring children; vickie (craig) richards of poquoson, va, connie (sherry) carpenter of parkersburg, wv, rod (teresa) carpenter of harrisville, utah, penny (mike) altrichter of stockbridge, ga and angela (donald) heath of chicago, il. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Family and friends will remember tom for his fearless yet loving approach to life. He believed that the “stairs separated the boys from the men” and always chose the stairs. His interests included physical fitness where he accomplished feats such as multi-state bike rides (pedaling over 100 miles per day) over a 5 to 7 day period, local 5 and 10k runs and in his later years he could be found trekking the wv mountains. He was an accomplished steel guitarist and over his lifetime was a member of several gospel bands. He considered his family his greatest accomplishment and the single most joy of his life. Will be held at montgomery memorial park @3:00 pm on 1/12/18 in the chapel/mausoleum.
Barlow bonsall funeral home has been entrusted to handle the arrangements.

I Met Tom Several Years Ago, Through Belenda. They Came To Our House Often. I Always Cook Large Country Meals, And He Loved To Eat . He Loved To Sit On The Front Porch And Swing. I Am Going To Miss Him. Our Grandson Maddox Really Liked Him, And Called Him “Tommyboy”. We Will All Miss You Very Much! Godspeed, Tommy Boy!

We Are So Sorry To Read Of Your Dad’S Passing. We Enjoyed Knowing Him When He Lived In Ravenswood, And Even Saw Him A Few Times After He And Your Mother Moved: Once At A Restaurant In Marlinton, And A Couple Times At Mcdonald’S In Smithers. He Was A Remarkable Man. May The Lord Comfort You. Bradley And Donna Mccoy

My Heartfelt Condolences. Tom Was A Wonderful Man, Devoted Husband, Charazmatic Gentleman, Funny-Witty Man, And Beloved Father Friend. I Looked Up To Him While A Teen And Often Sought His Advice.
I Feel Blessed To Have Known Him And Think Of Him Often.
May The Family Find Joy In Their Memories And Comfort In Knowing He Is Once Again With His Beloved Shelvy.
