Obituary
On Saturday, June 29, 2024, Todd Ralph Schwarz, 68, passed away peacefully at Hospice Care CAMC, surrounded by family and friends. He’s now with his Lord and Savior after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack and Shirley Schwarz; brother, Gary Schwarz; mother-in-law, Alta Jane Harrison, and his beloved son, Todd Jr.
Todd is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Matthew; his two brothers, Jack H. Schwarz, Jr. (Lorri) and Eric D. Schwarz (Denise); sisters in-law, Cheri Schwarz and Debbie Skiles (Greg), and brother-in-law, Robert “Bobby” Powell. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews: Sarah Bratton (Trace), Heather Allen (Brad), Megan Schwarz, Devon Schwarz, Gary Schwarz, Jr. (Ali), Emily Burdette, Kara Spencer (David) and Jeremy Skiles (Megan), along with many great nieces and nephews, and numerous friends whom he loved deeply.
Todd was born in Wheeling, WV, on September 24, 1955. He graduated from Charleston High School in 1973. He attended Ferrum Junior College where he played football. He then attended Marshall University where he received a B.A. in Education where he also played baseball and was a proud member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He then went on to receive an M.S in Environmental Safety and Health from Marshall University.
In 1979, Todd became a history teacher and football coach for Kanawha County Schools at South Charleston Junior High. He then founded Orion Consulting, LLC, in Charleston, WV, which he operated until his passing.
Todd was an avid sports fan who loved the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, but most of all, the Marshall Thundering Herd. He, his son Matthew, wife Carolyn and beloved friend John Naylor spent their fall Saturdays cheering on the Herd from the top row of section 102 in Joan C. Edwards stadium. His blood ran green, as the many others who also cheered on the Thundering Herd with him were well aware. Todd was also an avid hunter and attended yearly hunting trips in the Midwest and West Virginia with some of his closest friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Village Chapel Presbyterian Church, 3818 Venable Avenue, Charleston, WV.

Mr. Schwarz was my 7th & 8th grade History teacher in 1985-86 @ SCJHS. He was a wonderful and caring teacher and could get the most out of his students… the 3 other things I enjoyed about being in his class on the 3rd floor was 1) allowing us to watch the noon game of the NCAA basketball tournament (march madness) 2) watching opening day of the Reds baseball game & 3) he would bring deer hamburgers to class for us.. it was nice to think about Mr. Schwarz and how he was an influence and encouraging on a students life. ( 35 years later). sorry for your loss but he would come across my mind as I reflect back on life.. Mr. Schwarz was a good teacher and we loved talking sports ( He allowed us to read the sports page in his class when we had free time). really enjoyed him as a teacher (one of my best)
