Obituary

Virginia Ann Mahan, 74, of Charleston, WV, passed away July 24, 2023, at CAMC Hospice Care after a long battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by loving parents, Frank and Mae Crum, and sister, Sue.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Jon Mahan, and by Jon’s siblings and their spouses who were like brothers and sisters to her, James and Jeri Mahan, William and Linda Mahan, Robert and Paula Mahan, Alice and George Pyle and Lee Mahan.

She will be remembered as a stalwart public servant who was thorough in her representation of her constituents while she served in the West Virginia House of Delegates. This same caring attitude was also present in her personal life. She served on numerous House committees, including Finance, Health and Human Resources, Industry and Labor, Health Emergency Preparedness, and Banking and Insurance. She was the first woman to be appointed to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.

Virginia has been described as very bright and always kind and caring. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Virginia’s name to Three Rivers Avian Center or a charity of your choice.

Private memorial service will be held at a later date.

    Delegate Mahan cochaired the Legislative Rule-Making Review Committee which I staffed. She was an excellent chairman and and exceptional person. I am so sorry for her family’s and friend’s loss.
