Obituary

Virginia mcmanaway flournoy, 92, of kanawha city, passed away friday, feb. 28, 2014, at home with her family surrounding her.
She was born on may 12, 1921 to the late walter lee and ellen mcmanaway in bedford, va.
Virginia was the owner of aywards lady’s shop, located in spring hill and west washington street.
She was a member of st. Marks united methodist church, charleston, where she taught sunday school and was a member of the church circle,  alter guild and secretary of the board of trustees.
Virginia was raised in bedford county, virginia, came to charleston in the 1940’s and was a graduate of charleston business school.
She was a member of the peaks of otter dar in bedford, va.
Virginia loved cooking, playing tennis and was also a member of edgewood country club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, james a. Cox.
Virginia was the last surviving of 11 children.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to virginia’s primary caregivers, as well as the caregivers “frap” and anita and her friend, belinda livingston.
She is survived by her husband, samuel lightfoot flournoy; daughters, mary hawkins (tucker) of indianapolis, ind. And jane adair of charlottesville, va; son, ayward cox (susan) of richmond, va.; niece, kathy walker of greensboro, n.C.; nephew, webster moore of southport, n.C.; grandchildren, sam and joe hawkins, patrick adair and michael and kurtis cox; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.M. Tuesday, march 4 at st. Marks united methodist church, charleston with the rev. Monte brown officiating. Burial will follow at spring hill cemetery, charleston. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in memory of virginia to: st. Marks united methodist church, 900 washington street, charleston, wv 25301 and/or kanawha hospice care.
