Obituary

Wanda Porterfield Casto, 80, passed away at her home in Cross Lanes, WV, on Monday, May 20, 2024, after a sudden decline in health.

Wanda was born to Gordon Taylor (G.T.) and Annabelle Porterfield in Bluefield, WV, in 1943. The family moved to the Charleston area where she graduated from Charleston High in 1961. Wanda’s organizational disposition and secretarial skills allowed her to excel in her career. Her employments included FMC – Ordinance Division; Office Manager for Rogelio T. Lim, MD; part-time bookkeeper for Lynn Gianola, CPA; part-time secretary for her beloved husband, David Casto; Appraiser, for almost fifty-five years; and thirty-four years as part-time Secretary/Administrative Assistant for the West Virginia State Senate, which was truly her “Happy Place.” She loved those she worked with, treasuring the connections made through her work career which brought incredible joy to her heart.

Most important to Wanda was her testimony as a believer in Jesus Christ. In March 1970, she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior, living a full and dynamic life sharing her love for Jesus. She was an active member of Cross Lanes Bible Church for nearly forty years and an active member of Bible Center Church the last fifteen years. Wanda deeply loved and cared for her family, current and past neighbors, co-workers, church families, and anyone who crossed her path. Her daily words of encouragement or a shared verse brought warmness to others. Her life exemplified the Light of Christ to all who knew her.

Wanda is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, David C. Casto; her loving daughter, Lisa (Chris) Turley; her granddaughter, Abbigail (Mark) Davidson; grandson, Austin Michels; great-grandsons, Peyton and Crew Davidson; granddaughter and great-grandchildren of the heart, Leslie, Ian and Devon Southern; twin sister, Linda Kesting; sisters, Katy Lim and Jackie Rollyson; so many special nieces, nephews and many close and special friends.

A special thanks to all the Doctors, Nurses and the HospiceCare Staff who helped her navigate her health.

Those who loved her and wish to honor her are invited to a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Bible Center Church, located at 100 Bible Center Drive, South Charleston, WV 25309.

Visitation with family begins at 1:00 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, Wanda requests donations be made to the Bible Center Care Ministry.
