Bill chambers, born august 27, 1948, died on friday, august 17, at his home in kanawha city. He was preceded in death by his father, james e. A graduate of the ohio state university, bill was a successful cpa. Along with partner and best friend mike paterno, he founded chambers paterno & associates, cpas, and later became a partner with brown, edwards & company, llp, from which he retired. Many of bill’s clients were among his closest friends, and he enjoyed helping them manage their businesses. A proud democrat, bill also enjoyed serving as treasurer and advisor on various local and statewide political campaigns. Bill was a sports fan, and especially enjoyed cheering for the ohio state buckeyes, marshall university and the pittsburgh steelers.
Bill was a devoted and loving husband to carolyn, and carolyn was a doting and loving wife to bill. both knew how lucky they were to have found each other, and they took on life’s challenges side-by-side, most of the time with grace but always with a sense of humor. Among other things, they shared a love for their cats, artwork, music, and the beach. Bill and carolyn were compassionate, generous, and fun-loving people who helped countless friends and family throughout their lives. They always rooted for the underdog. As uncle bill and aunt carolyn, they indulged, supported, rescued, encouraged, and loved all of their nieces, nephews, and great nephews unconditionally. Bill will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
Bill requested that there be no memorial service, but those who wish to do something to honor bill may consider making a contribution to causes important to him, including the ywca of charleston, the kanawha charleston humane society, manna meal, and the west virginia wheelchair athletes program.
Bill’s family would especially like to thank and recognize kanawha hospice care and all of bill’s caretakers for the compassionate and loving care they gave him at the end of his life.
Barlow bonsall funeral home, charleston has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Bill was variously a boss, mentor, and later a partner to me … but always a friend and inspiration during his last 30 years. Many will agree that he was among the very smartest and funniest people they’ll ever know, and I remain indebted to him in many ways. Bill and Carolyn were a wonderful couple, incredibly brave in the face of life’s adversities. Affectionate wishes and prayers go out to the surviving family. May God bless you all.
