Obituary

William e. Mohler, ii, 92, died peacefully at home on september 6, 2015.

He was born in charleston, wv on april 1, 1923 to daniel n. And barbara byrne mohler.  he was educated at woodberry forest school, the university of virginia and duke university, and attained his law degree at the university of virginia in 1948.  he was a world-class hurdler and captained the duke and virginia track teams. He served his country as a marine.

He married mary ann morrison in 1945 and they raised five children who survive him: barbara shepherd (will); julia stocks (don); ann maddox (mike); william e. Mohler, iii (dina); and david a. Mohler (sherry).

Mary ann died in 1996.  he married ellen payne in 1999 and enjoyed the company of her children, beth robey (steve); kristenwalrond (bill); and rob payne (rebecca). He is survived by 9 grandchildren: trent, todd and mark shepherd; byrne stocks; katie mohler cross,matthew mohler and william e. Mohler iv; and amanda mohler and sally mohler lapoe; 10 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  he is also survived by his brother daniel mohler (harriet). He was predeceased by his sister, barbara wright, and his granddaughter, jennie stocks.

Bill practiced law for 52 years and was renowned for his skill as a trial lawyer.  there are many entertaining stories relating to the hundreds of cases he tried. He served on charleston city council during the terms of mayors copenhaver and shanklin and was majority leader; was president of the kanawha county bar, and was president of mohler lumber company.  he was a member of the seneca club and rotary and served as an elder at first presbyterian church.

Bill enjoyed his camp on the elk river and fishing at ocean isle beach, and was a u.Va. And duke fan. He enjoyed playing bridge and working crossword puzzles.  he regaled his grandchildren with stories that became more fantastic and funny with each telling.  some of them were true.

Visitation will take place thursday, september 10 from 5-7 pm at barlow-bonsall funeral home, 1118 virginia street, east, charleston, wv.  funeral services will be held at first presbyterian church, 16 leon sullivan way, on friday, september 11 at 11 am, with the rev. Jim roberts officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to first presbyterian church or to hospicecare, 1606 kanawha blvd, west, charleston, 25387.

    I Met Mr. Mohler Nearly 20 Years Ago While Working With Dr. Carter. Recently, I Became Employed At The Chas Va Clinic And Was Able To Serve Him Again. It Was Truly A Pleasure To See Him Again. I Will Miss His Smiling Face And His Kindness. May He Forever Rest In Eternal Peace.
