Obituary

Priscilla Florence Painter, 77, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 23, 2024, surrounded by the family she loved and who dearly love her, after a short illness, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

She was born in Charleston, WV, on March 25, 1946, to the late Cecil and Margaret Layne. She graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1964. Priscilla was a Seventh Day Adventist by faith. She grew up on Kanawha Two Mile. Her parents, whom she loved tremendously, owned and operated Wesley Super Market there.

Priscilla married the love of her life, Billy Painter, in 1964. Priscilla dedicated her life to loving and caring for her husband and their two daughters, and later, one grandson. She also had many animals she loved through the years, including Prissy, Sylvester, Rascal, Big Boy, Simone “Pup” and Little Girl. Priscilla loved and was extremely talented at crafts, particularly card making, flower arranging and decorating. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and decorating and shopping/gift wrapping for Christmas. She loved cooking and creating many different creations and desserts, and was exceptionally talented at it. She also loved shopping.

Priscilla enjoyed her time by going on many cruises, and it was her passion, in addition to her countless vacations and trips with her family. She also loved rock music, and saw many rock concerts. Priscilla always enjoyed life, from the mundane times to the exciting times. She was always a person of a fun and humorous spirit, and she was a blessing to be around all of the time.

In addition to Priscilla’s beloved parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Tim Layne and Richard Layne, and sister, Margaret Louise “Lou” Carpenter.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 59 years, Billy Painter of Charleston, WV; her two daughters, Dr. Angela Omer (Dr. Aziz Omer) of Morganton, NC, and Melody Robinson (A.P.) of Lutz, FL; one grandson, Ken Gibson of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Sue Holden of Charleston, WV; brother, James “Jimmy” Layne of Sissonville, WV, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved very much.

To our dear Mom / “Maw Maw” – You will always and forevermore be in our hearts. Your inextinguishable fire will be enveloped within us forever. Thank you for being such a beautiful, amazing, irreplaceable, devoted, generous, selfless, pure hearted, caring, joyful, precious, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. We love you and will miss you eternally, and we will see you in heaven.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association in memory of Priscilla and her lifelong love of animals.
