Obituary

Gordon blair lee, 61, of beckley, wv passed away february 17, 2017, at the hubbard hospice house, charleston, wv after a long and courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

He was born in ronceverte, wv on april 26, 1955, to the late john gordon and mary virginia blair lee.

Blair was a graduate of west virginia university with a degree in theater technical design. In 1991, he and his cousin, tom anderson, began allegheny restoration and builders, inc., with the restoration of the philippi covered bridge. Their company preserves historic structures with respect for history, integrity and quality. Just a few of his major accomplishments include restoring the windows of the west virginia state capitol; basilica of the assumption, baltimore, md; edith wharton’s the mount house, lenox massachusetts and the restoration of the upshucounty courthouse. He received the business person of the year, 2004, from main street morgantown, wv. The company has practiced its craft, all over the country and its legacy is preserving the history for tomorrow’s generations. His warmth, generosity, loving kindness and gently soul will be so missed by all the people he touched.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, danise lee.

He is survived by his wife, mary beth lee; sister, ghaski lee (robert preston) browning of charleston, wv, and dr. Alyce lee of beckley, wv; step-sister, carol (michael) wright of richmond, va; step-brother, george (nancy) cottrell of sunset city, fl.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and others who provided excellent care at ruby memorial hospital, charleston area medical center, cabell-huntington hospital and the hubbard hospice house.

Celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.M., thursday, february 23, 2017 at st. Christopher’s episcopal church charleston, wv (left on beech and left on somerset) with the reverend melissa e. Remington officiating.Friends may call at the church two hours prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date.

    I Went To School With Blair At Shady High School And Have Many Fond Memories. Touched Base With Him When I Moved Back To Beckley. What A Great Friend And A Wonderful Person. I Will Miss Him Dearly.
