Obituary

Howard Mason Melton, Jr., 88, of Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at The Arthur B. Hodges Center at Edgewood Summit.
He was born in St. Stephens, Alabama, son of the late Howard Mason Melton and Alberta Smith Melton.

He graduated from Auburn University and was a lifelong, loyal fan (War Eagle).
After college, he went to work at Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation in Charleston, WV where he retired as Vice President of Transmission and Exchange.

Howard served his country with the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged.

Howard is survived by his wife, Linda K. Melton of Charleston, WV; sons, Howard Mason Melton, III, of Florida, and Philip Douglas Melton and wife, Patty of Georgia; step-daughters, Lisa Fisher and husband, Vic of Charleston, and Jennifer Westfall and husband, Tom of Charleston; grandchildren, Brandy Melton, Jessica Melton, Carson Melton, Brice Melton, Zachary Ray, Kathryn Ray, Dalton Westfall, and Sydney Westfall; and one great grandchild, Jackson Weston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donating to Kanawha Hospice Care, or buy yourself your favorite wine and drink a toast to Howard.

Howard will be laid to rest in the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV.

Because of the Covid-19 epidemic, a private military service will be held at a later date.

  1. Howard was the epitome of the Southern gentleman: elegant, kind, well spoken. Enjoyed his friendship for many years. He will be very sadly missed.
