Obituary

Jo ann shannon, 56, of charleston, went home to be with the lord on saturday, october 6, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born on december 10, 1961 in buckhannon to minnie and the late billy bennett.

Jo was employed nearly 20 years with the west virginia state treasures office

her faith in her lord and savior, jesus christ was unwavering her entire life. She attended morris memorial united methodist church and had previously been a member of central united methodist church for over 30 years.

Jo loved her family fiercely and her favorite times in life were spent with them. She especially loved having family gatherings and spending countless hours laughing and visiting.

Other things she had a passion and love for were spending time outside in her flowers and a ferocious appetite for reading.

Jo was as kind and gentle a person as there ever was. She always had a friendly smile and pleasant word for everyone she met. Anyone that knew her, loved her.

She was an intensely proud mother of her two sons, benjamin thomas and his wife jessica and the “sunshine of her life”, her grandson chandler, who affectionately called her “jojo” of pinch and usmc 1stlt. Zachary todd, of camp pendleton, ca

jo was the best friend and love of a lifetime to her surviving husband of 36 years, john thomas; additional survivors include her mother, minnie bennett and her sister, rose russell both of buckhannon; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and in-laws all of whom she loved dearly and loved her.

Funeral service will be 1 pm wednesday, october 10, 2018 at morris memorial united methodist church, kanawha city with rev. Mark flynn and rev. Jerry murrell officiating. Visitation will begin 3 hours prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers ““ the family suggests donations may be sent in memory of jo to: cabell huntington hospital foundation for the edwards comprehensive cancer center, 1340 hal greer blvd., huntington, wv 25701.
