Obituary

Mary sperow griffith of charleston died saturday, august 5, 2017 at home. Mrs. Griffith, age 87, was born october 14, 1929 at martinsburg, wv. She graduated from hedgesville high school in 1947 and from west virginia university with a b. S. In home economics in 1951.

She spent approximately four years working for appalachian power as a home economist and later worked at the diamond and kaufmann’s. She was a member of st. Mark’s united methodist church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, robert r. Griffith and her parents, james holland and bessie pearl weller sperow; two brothers and one sister and their spouses; earl and catherine sperow of martinsburg, leon and betty hawthorne sperow of philadelphia, pa and ellen and william tallis of horton, mi.

She is survived by her sons and their spouses, donald and gina griffith, st. Albans; gary and deb griffith, maidens, va and dr. James and marla griffith of charleston. She is also survived by five grandchildren, mary beth, emily, nicholas, matthew and his wife emmalee, rebeccah and several nieces and nephews.

The family thanks katie baldwin, melinda boggess, cathy thacker and juanita mcallister for their kind and compassionate care.

Funeral service will be 11 a.M. Thursday, august 10, 2017 at st. Mark’s united methodist church, charleston with the rev’d monty brown and rev’d janet harman officiating. Burial will follow at graceland memorial park, south charleston. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
